MY Chicago

Welcome to My Chicago is Better Than Your Chicago! This blog is the brainchild of my much beloved old roommate in the great city of Dallas. She wanted to start a blog that showcased the best of Dallas. Not the best that everyone and their mother knows and loves, but the REAL Dallas. The small, the local, the weird, the family-owned, the places that locals go when their visitors and touristy-minded friends go home.

I brought her idea with me to the Windy City and thus, here we are! Being a newbie to the city, I'm going to need some help and suggestions from my new friends and hopefully from any readers that I might aquire along the way.

I want to focus on the places that local Chicagoans know and love. Bars and pubs, restaurants and cafes, bake shops, clothing stores, parks, hidden landmarks, quirky neighborhoods, you name it, we'll talk about it here. I prefer to emphasize locally-owned places unique to this city. However I'm no snob, if there is a regional chain that I stumble across that manages to epitomize my Chicago experience, I'll talk about it here. I also might mention a tourist trap from time to time. I really hope to stay away from those places, but some of them started out as local Chicago gems that grew famous because Chicagoans loved them so much.

I will not post bad reviews of any place. If I go somewhere and the service is terrible, I won't trash it here. I'm not doing this to spread negativity, I'm here to celebrate Chicago!

The first few weeks here will be slow going. I'm still getting adjusted to Chicago and finding my way around. It's still winter and the cold weather forces me inside when I'd rather be out exploring. And I'm in the middle of a stressful job search. But once I get settled and find some contributing writers and the suggestions start rolling in, I hope to post at least once a week.
